How to discipline your child.

Ohh well, this is not actually a blog where I narrate steps in disciplining a child. I would just like to narrate my experiences.

My baby's just one and a half year old but she's already showing signs of stubbornness and stupidity. Stubborn because she wouldn't give in to our coaxing her to eat, she likes to scatter all the things we put in order(although babies are really like that but all the time?),refuses to wear clothes if she doesn't like them and all other stuff. She's stupid because whenever she gets angry, she bangs her head on anything or she spanks herself. I couldn't help myself at times so I spank her on her behind or her
palm. I know she's still small but what can I do? Most of the time though or all the time, I regret doing so because it doesn't only make me guilty,it hurts me too. We try
all possible solutions so as not to spank her but to no avail. I wonder, are the other
babies like her too? (Oh well, maybe because our flatmate's kid is thrice her attitude.
She's even more than that!!!)

Realizing a mother's pain

How many mothers out there would agree with me that motherhood is really the most painful yet rewarding endeavor?
I never thought I'd be realizing this when I was still younger. I was also like the others who resent the anger of their mothers when they do something without the permission of the latter. I always wondered why my mother seemed to be very strict with me as compared to my siblings. I am the only girl in a brood of six. My parents were also strict with my brothers but more strict with me. Aside from the fact that I am the second eldest, I cannot find any other reason. Now, I know. Everytime I think about the times my baby got hurt, I feel the pain that my mom had felt before. My baby's still one and a half year old but she's active and most of the time she gets hurt. She accidentally falls and bangs her head or she runs and falls. It's not only the physical pain of my child that gets to me, it's the feeling that I cannot do anything about it specially if my baby's sick. I remember the time the nurse had to get blood sample from my baby's foot. Her crying seemed to penetrate my heart. I cannot bear to look at her because inside I'm shaking. I just held back my tears.
Another painful memory (although not that too painful) was a month after giving birth to my baby. I had undergone appendectomy and had to leave my one month old baby at home. I had a hard time sleeping in the hospital not only because of the pain in my side but also because I wasn't able to breastfed my baby for a week. When she was finally brought along to visit me, I nearly cried because she had rashes on her face and she had a hoarse voice. I cannot carry her that time and it took all my willpower not to cry.
Those are only a few of the things that made me realize my mother's hardships. Now I feel her pain when she was taking care of us all. My mother's still alive but she's still working not just for herself but also for my brothers. It's sad but that seems to be her life. I cannot think of a single thing that my father did for my mother. I do not hate my father, I just can't accept the fact that he did nothing to alleviate our poverty-stricken condition. Anyway, back to what I was trying to say. At the moment I am far from my mother and my brothers, and busy with my own family. Everytime I think about what's going to be my baby's future, I think about my mother. Was this how she felt before? Whenever, we talk on the phone I hint something in the tone of her voice. She seems tired but what can I do? Everytime she tells me something about the problems back home, I always think to myself, how could I help? There seems to be nothing I could do at the moment. I just hope and pray that my brothers would help out. You see, our eldest seems to be in a world where he's the only one who knows what's going on. He is somewhat part of my mother's problem. I admire my mom more now because I know that only a few would be able to surpass all the hurdles that she had come across. There's no need for me to narrate all of them because I believe that in one way or another, some mothers also had undergone those things. What's important now is the fact that no matter what decisions she would be making in the future, I'll always support her no matter what. As older people always say, you would only be able to repay your mother or your parents once you become one. I believe in this. Motherhood is really a great job. It doesn't end in bringing out a child in this world. It actually is the beginning of everything else. I just hope that my mother would always be there with me all the way as I would when the time comes for my baby.
So, need I say more? It is still too early for me but I know that in the future, realizing my mother's pain would continue for me. Don't you agree?
